In recent weeks, Eduardo Graterol informed to the FLAR Administrative Committee of his decision to step down from the Executive Director role, after 12 years in this role. <\/p>\n To ensure operational continuity, the Committee appointed Dr. Joe Tohme as interim Executive Director, a designation that became effective as of December 1, 2025. Dr. Tohme, scientist emeritus of the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, is a renowned scientist and ally of FLAR. <\/p>\n Dr. Tohme, originally from Lebanon and a Doctor of Crop Sciences from Michigan State University (USA), brings more than three decades of research experience with an emphasis on integrating genomics with breeding and germplasm conservation activities.<\/p>\n Although Dr. Tohme announced his retirement a year ago, his commitment to science keeps him active.<\/p>\n Priority: ensuring continuity<\/strong><\/p>\n Joe Tohme has been clear about his main objective during the interim: \u201cMy priority is to ensure the continuity of FLAR, support our common goals, and maintain the strong momentum achieved by Eduardo Graterol and the entire team<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n The scientist took the opportunity to thank the Administrative Committee and, especially, Mar\u00eda Fernanda \u00c1lvarez, director of Crops for Nutrition and Health at the Bioversity and CIAT Alliance, for the trust placed in his work.<\/p>\n The search process for a permanent Executive Director is already underway.
