On October 10, a delegation from the engineering division of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries of Trinidad and Tobago visited the facilities of the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT).
Santiago Jaramillo participated on behalf of FLAR with a technical talk on the transformation of rainfed to irrigation through water harvesting, as a practical measure of adaptation to climate change. Jaramillo explained how, through a small investment, it is possible to increase the yields and income of producers in diversified systems of crop production under irrigation, as well as fish farming.
Also, technical aspects that should be taken into account in the selection of potential sites for rainwater harvesting reservoirs, efficient irrigation systems and sustainable crop management practices were discussed.
The delegation was made up of Rodney Ramkeesoon, Michelle Shah, Natasha Maharaj, Abdullah Alibaksh, representing the Ministry of Agriculture of Trinidad and Tobajo and Martha Liliana Márquez of the Environmental Sustainability and Climate Change Group of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Colombia.
